SHANGHAI – APRIL 20, 2015: Detroit Electric will be showcasing the exciting SP:01 pure-electric sports car at this year’s Shanghai motor show (‘Auto Shanghai 2015’), alongside demonstrations of the company’s innovative V2X (Vehicle to Grid and Vehicle to Port) technology and in-car infotainment system. The show marks a significant step forward in Detroit Electric’s development in China, for the brand has appointed Jowett Motors (Asia) Ltd. as its exclusive importer in the Chinese market. Jowett’s owner and management have been importing renowned sports car marques from Italy and Germany to China for over 23 years.

“We are proud to team up with Jowett Motors, as their management team has an exceptional track record in introducing and selling high-end performance sports car within the China market,” said Mr. Albert Lam, Chairman and Group CEO of Detroit Electric. “Their involvement says much about our product and brand and the progress we are making.”

Dr. Richard Lee, Chairman of Jowett Motors, added, “We are honored and excited to have been selected as Detroit Electric Exclusive Importer for China. China is leading the world into the great future of EV and it will become the largest market for EVs. We are proud that the start of our relationship with Detroit Electric marks another a milestone in this journey.”

Auto Shanghai 2015 will be an opportunity for Detroit Electric to demonstrate its V2X bi-directional charge and discharge technology, which can turn the vehicle into a power source for both the grid and the home. This will unlock the true potential of EVs, both as a mobility and energy solution.

Detroit Electric will also be demonstrating the SP:01’s SAMI (Smartphone Application Managed Infotainment) system. SAMI utilises an open-source Android operating platform to provide access to a wide range of functions, including radio, music player, HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning), satellite navigation and vehicle systems status, such as battery charge and other vehicle telemetry.

“We believe this is a game changer. We are proud to be the first to introduce a comprehensive open-source Android based infotainment system, making our vehicle the ultimate mobile device,” adds Lam.

In addition, via mobile connectivity, SAMI can be used to make mobile telephone calls, stream data and access the internet, while providing remote access to a range of vehicle functions, including the control of charging / discharging, climate control, and downloading full vehicle telemetry. The Android open-source platform will enable Detroit Electric’s customers to access apps developed by third parties via SAMI’s in-car interface, providing numerous opportunities to enhance the user experience, where a car becomes a truly ‘mobile’ device.

A demonstration of SAMI will take place on the stand, showing SP:01 releasing its stored energy to power an electric appliance through a click of a button within the SAMI application.

Detroit Electric has also invested in a new European headquarters, located in Houten, Netherlands, where the company has already recruited a new team to manage the brand’s Sales and Marketing activities including vehicle sales, customer service and marketing in the region.
